I look like a wacko (and the six questions I hear when people are struggling to get stuff done)

Along this entrepreneurial journey, I’ve been really lucky to meet and become good friends with some phenomenal people. Carly Clark Zimmer is one of those people. In fact, along with two other great ladies we have a Power Girls Master Mind, where we meet once month at our local coffee shop and nibble on good chocolate at 9 am (ok — I’m the only one that eats the chocolate).

Carly is a BodyMind Coach and creator of the Simple Sacred Lifestyle. She helps people who are sick of living a mediocre life get into the driver seat, start prioritizing themselves and live a life they are in love with! You can learn more about her work here. Carly’s work is amazing and she’s one of the most lovely people in the world.

So I was thrilled when she asked me to do an online chat for her audience about how to get things done and still have time to take care of yourself. Because Carly is so fabulous — she forwarded me the link to our video chat so that I could share it with you. Click here to check it out

When I watched the video, my first thought was, "I look like a wacko", but it’s only because I was so excited about sharing the tools that take people from feeling totally stressed out and overwhelmed to feeling focused and productive.

Our chat was about 40 minutes—if you have the time to spare it would be great to watch (and see me look like a dork). But if not — no worries because I’ll share the highlights.

Here are six question I ask and hear when people are struggling to get stuff done:

#1. Are you spending your day doing things you should be doing versus the things you want to be doing? If you’re spending a lot of time on the “shoulds" (which is often a priority to someone else) think about how you can shift that so your investing your time in your wants".

#2. Is time for health and fun impossible? No! Health and fun doesn’t have to be an all or nothing thing. Get creative in the small ways you can add healthy choices and room for fun into your day.

#3. Should I try to power through when I feel exhausted? No. Become aware of when your energy levels are the highest and schedule the most brain-intensive and important work for those times. (Don’t be a dummy and do your laundry during peak energy levels… like I did last week!)

#4. Is giving in to resistance and procrastination a bad thing? Nope! Embrace those feelings as part of the process and let it help you lean in to being fully focused.

#5. What should I do first when everything is really important and urgent? Take a step back, take a deep breath, trust your intuition and pick one thing. Focus on that and only that first.

#6. When will I stop feeling overwhelmed? When you consider this: It’s all in your head. Yes, I believe you are super busy and have a ton to do. But the feeling of overwhelm and all the anxiety that comes along with it — is truly made up of your thoughts. I know, it’s kind of annoying, yet liberating to hear.

So the answers to these six questions may have you scratching your head, nodding your head in agreement or maybe even feeling like you may want to rip my head off (but please don’t.)

Let me know, how can I help you? What other questions do you have? Respond to this email or post in the comments. Remember, I’m always here to help you take back your time.
